Donald Sutherland was married three times. He married his third wife, Francine Racette, in 1972 after meeting her on the set of Alien Thunder, a Canadian drama.

Racette was born in Quebec and worked as an actor. She appeared in American and French films throughout her career. Racette graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada in 1966 and became known for her performances in Au revoir les enfants, Lumière, and The Disappearance — another film she starred in alongside Donald. She retired from acting in the ’80s.

Donald’s romance with his third wife came on the heels of a short-lived romance with Jane Fonda in 1971. They starred in Klute that same year and attended the Academy Awards together when Fonda won Best Actress for her role in the movie. Their relationship lasted until June 1972.

Who were Sutherland’s 2 previous wives?

Donald Sutherland married twice before embarking on his 50-year marriage to Francine Racette. In 1966, he married the late actor Shirley Douglas. Donald’s first wife was Lois Hardwick. The couple tied the knot in 1959 and stayed married for seven years before divorcing. Like her husband, Hardwick had an acting career and rose to fame as a child actor, starring in several Alice Comedies for The Walt Disney Company. Most notably, Hardwick was 18 years older than Donald.

Donald and Racette had their son, Roeg Sutherland, on Feb. 5, 1974. According to People, he reportedly works in the media finance division of the Creative Artists Agency, which oversees the “packing and representation of independently financed films, television, and digital content.”

Donald and Racette had Rossif Sutherland on Sept. 25, 1978. While he didn’t initially take an interest in acting, he always looked up to his father and eventually entered the industry. His performance in the 2016 film River earned him a nomination for a Canadian Screen Award.

Finally, Donald and Racette had Angus Sutherland on Sept. 3, 1982. Angus also avoids the spotlight like Rachel, preferring to work behind the camera.

‘Deadliest Catch’ Deckhand Nick Mavar Dead at 59

Nick Mavar Jr. of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch has died at age 59.

Mavar experienced a medical emergency on June 13 at a boatyard in Naknek, Alaska, Deadline reported. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead of natural causes.

Mavar appeared in 98 episodes of Deadliest Catch between 2005 and 2021. He worked as a deckhand with Captain Sig Hansen on the F/V Northwestern. Mavar left the show after his appendix ruptured during filming. Doctors eventually discovered he had a cancerous tumor.

In 2022, Mavar sued Hansen and the other owners of the Northwestern for $1 million, claiming that there was not an “adequate plan in place” for medical care on the boat during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The delay in competent and adequate examination, testing, and diagnosis caused Mavar’s appendix to rupture resulting in horrendous and chronic infections, surgeries, and cancer treatment that would not have occurred had the appendix been removed prior to rupture,” according to Mavar’s lawsuit (via KTOO).

Hansen’s attorneys pointed the finger at Deadliest Catch’s production company, Original Productions Inc., saying the company was responsible for the COVID-19 protocols during filming.

After leaving Deadliest Catch, Mavar reportedly worked as the captain of a salmon boat.

Mavar’s death is the latest ‘Deadliest Catch’ tragedy

Mavar’s death is just the latest tragedy to strike the Deadliest Catch family. Over the years, several current and former cast members have died.

In 2021, deckhand Todd Kochutin was killed in an accident involving a crab pot on the F/V Patricia Lee.

“I mean, this is a cold hard reminder of what can happen,” Captain Bill Wichrowski said when he learned of Kochutin’s death (via YouTube). “I don’t know how many more of these we can take, man. It seems like every quarter we’re losing somebody.”

Captain Phil Harris appeared on six seasons of the fishing-focused reality series before he suffered a stroke in 2010. His death and the effect it had on his two sons, Josh Harris and Jake Harris, was documented on the show.

In 2020, F/V Summer Bay deck boss Nick McGlashan died of an apparent drug overdose. Earlier that year, Mahlon Reyes, a deckhand on the F/V Seabrooke and F/V Cape Caution, died of a heart attack caused by an overdose of cocaine.

Other Deadliest Catch cast member deaths include Justin Tennison in 2011 and Blake Painter in 2018.

Simpson nicknamed “The Juice” was a former NFL star who got into broadcasting and acting following his football career. But what most people remember is that he stood trial for the brutal 1994 slayings of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and restaurant waiter, Ron Goldman.

While Simpson was acquitted in the double murder trial, he was found responsible for the deaths in a civil lawsuit and ordered to pay more than $30 million to the Goldman family. His mansion in the Brentwood section of California foreclosed for $4 million before being demolished in 1998. In the years following his trials, Simpson’s main source of income was his NFL pension worth around $5 million. The Goldman family was not allowed to claim any of that though because of state laws protecting pension money. According to multiple reports, the former running back paid back less than $500,000 which mostly came from the sale of various assets and memorabilia.

Edward Herrmann, the actor who portrayed Richard Gilmore on Gilmore Girls, died in 2014, but the home he loved so much was just sold by his widow nearly a decade after his passing. The sprawling Connecticut compound Herrmann called home was listed for sale in December 2023, but the final sale just went through.

While the home languished on the market for several months, it has officially been sold. The house was initially listed for $2.7 million. The price was slashed in February to $2.4 million. Still, the lowered price wasn’t enough to entice a new owner, but clearly, there was some room to negotiate. According to CT Insider, the new owner agreed to pay Herrmann’s estate $1.9 million for the property. It is unclear what the new owner plans for the home.

Edward Herrmann reportedly loved his Connecticut estate

Herrmann’s widow, Star Herrmann, kept the house in the family following her husband’s 2014 death. It is unclear if Star continued to live in the home or if she merely held onto it.

If she did continue to live in the house, it’s completely understandable. Salisbury, Connecticut, has the same cozy, small-town vibe of Stars Hollow. The town of 3,000 is quaint and quirky and has small businesses that could easily be swapped out for Stars Hollow’s beloved stores and eateries.

According to several sources, Herrmann loved being home in Connecticut so much that he ensured he held a guest role on Gilmore Girls instead of being a main cast member. Valerie Campbell, the key set costumer on Gilmore Girls, once explained that Herrmann remained a guest star because it gave him more flexibility to spend time back home on the East Coast while still working on the show. Gilmore Girls was filmed on a Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California.

Herrmann purchased the property in 1996 for $650,000. Gilmore Girls premiered in 2000 and was canceled in 2007. Following the end of the series, Herrmann returned to Connecticut to spend more time with his family.

Charlie “Grif” Griffin has died. He was 62. The Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks star and commercial fisherman was reported missing on March 3 after he and his boat failed to turn up at a marina as expected. The United States Coast Guard later discovered Griffin’s body. Another passenger, 35-year-old Chad Dunn, remains missing, but searches have been called off. Griffin’s dog, Leila, also died in the incident.

According to WDBJ, a local news station, Griffin and Dunn had set out from Virginia Beach to Wanchese, North Carolina, on the evening of March 3. When they did not turn up by 11:30 pm, past the time they were expected, the United States Coast Guard launched a search. The men were last heard from at 6:15 pm. It does not appear that anything destressing was occurring at that point.

Griffin and his dog were found the following morning deceased on the beach. The boat was also recovered. Dunn’s body was not located with Griffin. While the Coast Guard continued to scour the waters for him, by March 5, they called off the search. It is unclear what caused the tragic accident, but visibility was allegedly low while Griffin was on the water. The region where contact was lost can be particularly difficult to navigate.

Following news of his death, several people on social media honored the reality TV star. According to Griffin’s obituary, he was born in Germany before moving to North Carolina, where he later married and welcomed a son. A celebration of life for the lifelong fisherman has been held.

The Dateline host was a guest on the March 13 episode of Hoda Kotb’s Making Space podcast. During their conversation, Morrison spoke about the Friends star, who died in October 2023 from the acute effects of ketamine.

“It was the news you never want to get, but you think someday you might,” Morrison said when asked if he was surprised by Perry’s death. The actor had been open about his drug addiction and multiple trips to rehab, including in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

But even if he didn’t say a word, he was the center of attention. And so yes, that’s gone, but you still feel the echo of it everywhere around here.”

Morrison watched as Perry fought addiction while also starring in one of the most popular TV shows of all time.

“It’s a whirlwind of a life to get involved in a program that became as wildly successful as it was to be fighting an addiction that was so virulent, that went after him so hard,” Morrison shared. “And he gave into it frequently.”

Despite the many challenges in his personal life, Perry seemed to have turned a corner before his sudden death at age 54.

“He was happy, and he said so,” Morrison said of Perry’s mindset before his death. “And he hadn’t said that for a long time. It’s a source of comfort, but also, he didn’t get to have his third act, and that’s not fair. And as he said himself, ‘If if I suddenly died, people would be shocked, but not too many people would be surprised.’ And he was right.”

Robert Garrison Brown, Jenelle Brown’s fourth child and Kody Brown’s eighth child, was found dead in his home at the age of 25. According to several sources, the death was being investigated as a suicide. Early reports suggested Garrison’s younger brother, Gabriel Brown, was the person who found Garrison’s body. A police report has confirmed that rumor.

Twenty-four hours after news that Garrison Brown had died by suicide, more details of his final day are emerging. TMZ obtained a police report from the incident that confirms Gabriel Brown, 22, was the person to discover his brother’s body.

In the police report obtained by TMZ, Janelle Brown reported growing concern for Garrison after he stopped responding to text messages on Monday evening. She told officers that on Tuesday morning, she asked if anyone was available to check on him. Her son, Gabriel Brown, volunteered to drive to his 25-year-old brother’s home. According to the report, Gabriel let himself into his brother’s bedroom and found his body. Gabriel was the individual who placed the 911 call. Garrison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Where was Garrison Brown living at the time of his death?

TLC heavily featured Gabriel and Garrison Brown on more recent seasons of Sister Wives. Both were incredibly close to their mother and opted to live with her during the pandemic. While the brothers resided with Janelle Brown in 2020, they moved on to other living accommodations in more recent years. Garrison purchased a house in late 2021 and was living with roommates.

According to police reports, several roommates were at home but were not aware anything had been amiss with Garrison the evening before his death. Kody’s ex-wife and Janelle’s former sister wife Meri Brown also shared a similar post mourning Garrison on her Instagram.

Garrison’s siblings mourn their brother

Several of Garrison’s siblings also posted messages on social media mourning their late brother.

Mykelti Padron, who is the daughter of Kody and his third wife Christine Brown, shared a photo of Garrison on her Instagram Story along with the words: “I love you bro.”

Gwendlyn Brown, another of Kody and Christine’s daughters, reiterated the Brown family’s request for privacy in the wake of Garrison’s death.

“Our beloved brother/son Robert (aka Garrison) passed late last night,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “We appreciate the love and support from all those who have given it. We ask that everyone please respect our privacy and space through this hard time.”

Sister Wives debuted on TLC in 2010. In a statement shared with NBC, the network said it was “devastated to hear of the tragic loss of Garrison Brown.”

“We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Brown family at this difficult time,” TLC added.

Sister Wives Season 18 premiered in August 2023 and focused heavily on the end of Kody and Janelle’s relationship. In recent years, Kody became estranged from his and Janelle’s adult sons due to a disagreement about Kody’s desire to follow strict COVID-19 protocols to protect his fourth wife Robyn and their children. The estrangement was a factor in the breakdown of Kody and Janelle’s marriage.
